SWEET AS A CALIFORNIA RAISIN

California Raisins

Confectionery in the UK is a huge market. The average Brit eats around nine kilos of sweet stuff every year, and that's a frightening, if not particularly surprising, amount when you consider that 24% of adults and 16% of 2-15 year olds were considered obese in 2006. There's been considerable focus on producing sugar-free confectionery in recent years to combat the rise in obesity, and other health issues. Sugar-free chewing gum, sweets and chocolate are now readily available, and popular with consumers.

But most sugar-free confectionery uses artificial sweeteners to replace the sugar content, and with the recent trend in consumer demand for natural and organic ingredients, there could be a problem consolidating the two issues.

California Raisins are a good solution to this problem. 100% natural, they can be used in confectionery as a sweetener and a flavour-enhancer. As well as the natural form, California Raisins are also available in the form of a paste and a juice concentrate, both of which can be used in confectionery production. From extending the shelf-life of products to creating soft truffle fillings, California Raisins are extremely versatile, and they're full of healthy vitamins and minerals.

California Raisins can simply add taste and texture to confectionery. They are highly compatible with a number of different flavours, from chocolate to liqueor. Sourced from around the world for their consistent high quality, the firm skin of a California Raisin will coat evenly with chocolate or yoghurt, and packers in the USA have developed specifications with confectioners in mind, including oil coatings, special shapes and different sizes of raisins.
