LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Who says ice cream can't be good for you? Turkey Hill Dairy of Lancaster County, Pa. (www.turkeyhill.com), is now enriching several frozen dessert recipes with additional calcium and vitamin D to support calcium intake and absorption and maintain stronger bones. Turkey Hill Light Recipe Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt and Frozen Yogurt Smoothies, all options for consumers looking for "better-for-you" desserts, will feature the additional calcium and vitamin D.

The Dairy added calcium and vitamin D after findings from organizations such as the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease showed that vitamin D is needed for the body to achieve optimal calcium absorption. This information, together with the longstanding recognition of dietary calcium being a better source of the nutrient than supplements, encouraged the addition.

"A lot of research went into our 'better-for-you' frozen desserts. We are continuously trying to meet our customers' desires for healthier desserts with great taste and the feeling of indulgence," said Turkey Hill Dairy President Quintin Frey. "We also know that people look to dairy as a great source of calcium. The addition of more calcium along with vitamin D maximizes that benefit, especially in our desserts that are perfect for consumers interested in fewer calories and less fat."

The calcium and vitamin D enriched desserts include new Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Banana Split Light Recipe Ice Creams, along with new Pomegranate Blueberry and Cream with Acai Frozen Yogurt Smoothie and classic Fudge Ripple and Chocolate Marshmallow Frozen Yogurts. For a full list of flavors, visit Turkey Hill's website at http://www.turkeyhill.com.

Located in the rich farming country of Lancaster County, Pa., Turkey Hill Dairy produces the fourth largest-selling premium ice cream brand and the top-selling refrigerated iced tea brand in the nation. The third-generation, family-run dairy sells its products in a market that extends along the East Coast from Maine to Georgia -- and west to the Rocky Mountain states.
