 | | US FOODBORNE ILLNESS EXPERT WILLIAM MARLER TO SPEAK AT ROYAL INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND FOOD NETWORK WALES |  | | Marler Clark | | 16/06/2008 | | | William Marler, food safety advocate and expert in foodborne illness litigation, will speak at the Inaugural British Food Journal Annual Lecture on Tuesday, 17 June from 11:00 a.m. His lecture, titled “Caused Food Poisoning? See You in Court” will be presented at the Royal Institute of Public Health, 28 Portland Place, London W1B 1DE. On Wednesday, 18 June, Mr. Marler will speak at the Food Network Wales/United Kingdom Association for Food Protection (UKAFP) Conference at the Village Hotel, 29 Pendwyallt Rd, Cardiff CF14. His presentation begins at 10 a.m.
Mr. Marler travels widely to address industry, government, and consumer groups in an effort to improve food safety around the world. He recently organized and hosted a food safety conference in Seattle, Washington where experts from the US, EU, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and China met to discuss food safety in the global marketplace. Mr. Marler is the recipient of many awards and recognitions, including the Public Justice award (WSTLA), Outstanding Lawyer Award (KCBA), and Super Lawyer (WL&P).
William Marler began litigating foodborne illness cases in 1993, when he represented Brianne Kiner, the most seriously injured survivor of the Jack in the Box E. coli O157:H7 outbreak, resulting in her landmark USD 15.6 million (£ 8,000,000) settlement. Marler has focused his practice on representing individuals in litigation resulting from E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, hepatitis A, and other food contamination cases. He has represented victims of nearly every large foodborne illness outbreak in the United States against such companies as Wholesale Club, Chili’s, Chi-Chi’s, ConAgra, Dole, Excel, Golden Corral, KFC, Sheetz, Sizzler, Supervalu, and Wendy’s, securing over 500 million dollars (£ 256,500,000) for his clients.
BACKGROUND: William Marler has been a major force in food safety policy in the United States and abroad.
