Mono® NOV has launched a new range of hygienic rotary lobe pumps that has been specifically developed to significantly improve processing quality and efficiency for food and beverage manufacturers.

The Luna™ range of rotary lobe pumps is the latest addition to Mono’s hygienic pump offering for food and beverage applications. It consists of high efficiency positive displacement pumps, which feature a modular and simple design that minimises maintenance requirements and delivers a long reliable life.

Commenting on the launch of the new range, Simon Lambert, general manager, Europe, at Mono, said: “The new Luna pump has been specifically developed to meet stringent hygiene standards, including 3A and EHEDG. It has also been designed with C-I-P (Clean-in Place) and S-I-P (Sterilise-in-Place) procedures in mind. Wetted parts are manufactured in 316L stainless steel as standard, with other materials available that can withstand the most arduous regimes and corrosive cleaning chemicals. In addition, a range of hygienic fittings are also available, ensuring all market requirements are met.”

“The gentle, smooth pumping action of Luna rotary lobe pumps makes them eminently suitable for thixotropic and shear-sensitive products, or those containing soft solids like fruit pieces, where damage must be avoided. Its positive action also enables the Luna pump to offer accurate metering and batching, especially with medium and higher viscosity fluids such as sugar syrups. At the same time, because there is no metal to metal rubbing contact, abrasive particles or crystals will cause minimal wear.”

With maximum flow volumes up to 300m3/h, Mono’s Luna lobe pumps are able to handle a wide range of viscosities. Standard pump designs are built for a temperature range between -40°C and 100°C continuous performance, and optional designs up to 200°C are available for especially rigorous duties. To maintain process temperature, a heating or cooling jacket body can also be specified.

Their compact size facilitates easy location within a plant and also enables them to be used as a mobile, trolley mounted pump. For additional flexibility, the pump is also suited to a variety of drive types, including variable speed via a mechanical, hydraulic or belt adjustable speed unit or inverter integrated into the motor. Alternatively, it can be fixed speed via reduction geared motor.

The all metal construction of the pumping chamber ensures easy cleaning, and inspection and access is simple via the removable front casing of the chamber. Rotors are also easily removable, while shaft bearings can be maintained from outside the pump chamber.

In addition to the new Luna range, Mono’s full offering for food and beverage applications includes the Helios™ progressing cavity pump and the W-Range widethroat pump, an auger fed progressing cavity pump for slurries and pastes.
