Loch Fyne Oysters will be attending the inaugural Real Food Festival at Earl’s Court in London and will be found on Stand 138. The Real Food Festival is open to both the trade (Thursday, 24 April) and to the consumer, (Friday, 25 – Sunday, 27 April).

The Loch Fyne stand, staffed by Marketing Manager Virginia Sumsion, with colleagues Lauri Thorndyke and Philippa Raven (all employee shareholders in the Company), will be among 500 of the world’s best small food and drink producers gathered at the biggest farmers’ market in Britain. Visitors to the Loch Fyne Oysters stand will be able to taste, learn about and buy the best of Scottish West Coast sea food.

At their base in Argyll, Scotland, Loch Fyne Oysters rear their own oysters and mussels and run a traditional smokehouse, smoking and curing fish using methods handed down over the years.

The Real Food Festival focuses on small producers who care about sustainability, provenance, biodiversity and fairness to farmers and rural communities all of which are at the heart of the Loch Fyne Oysters philosophy. Sustainable production is a way of raising the food that we eat in a way that is healthy for consumers and animals, does not harm the environment, is humane for workers, respects animals, provides a fair wage to the farmer, and supports and enhances rural communities.

All the producers exhibiting at the Real Food Festival have been selected on the basis that their products should taste GOOD; they should be produced in a CLEAN way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that the food producers should receive FAIR compensation for their work.

Every day, more and more consumers are shopping smarter, eating healthier, and enjoying an abundance of fresh, locally-grown products. The Real Food Festival aims to help this process by bringing together the very best producers so consumers and the trade can discover them, see their passion, learn about them, taste their produce and then buy it to take it home.

The selection panel who chose the producers for the Real Food Festival included: Matthew Drennan, editor of Delicious magazine; Richard Johnson, food writer and author; Sebastiano Sardo of Food Discovery; Anthony Davison of LocalFoodShop.com and BigBarn.co.uk; Chris Walton of Pelham Organic Farm; Lyndon Gee, food writer & key industry influencer; Alex James, ex Blur, Cheese producer and writer and Juliet Harbutt, International Cheese Expert

Loch Fyne Oysters also host their own festival of local food, wine and ales at the Loch Fyne Food Fair on 10-11 May 2008 at Cairndow, near Inveraray Argyll. This year’s festivities include a Dinner/Ceilidh on the Saturday Night to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd.
