 | | FRIESLAND FOODS WINS TOP AWARD FOR EDAM CHEESE |  | | Friesland Foods | | 26/03/2008 | | | Friesland Foods, Holland’s largest cheese manufacturer, scooped 15 awards at the 2008 World Championship Cheese Contest, with family favourite Edam, winning Best of Class for the Young Edam ball.
Friesland Foods, based in the Netherlands, supplies Edam cheese across the world, with 90% of the cheese sold in the UK supplied by the Dutch company.
Cheese makers from around the world competed in the 27th Biennial World Championship Cheese Contest, across 79 separate categories. The World Championship Cheese Contest is hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association in the USA and is the largest international cheese competition in the world. An international panel of 22 judges and experts in cheese evaluation assessed entries under a point system. This year's competition drew almost 2,000 entries from 20 countries.
Friesland Foods also secured ‘Best of Class’ for its original Gouda and aged Gouda cheeses. Edam with Cumin and Young Gouda Cumin secured the top awards in both the flavoured cheese categories. Cablanca and Chevrette took the first and second place in the Hard Goats Milk Cheese category.
