The Scottish Food Scholarship is enjoying its third successive year thanks to the generous support of leading manufacturer of combination ovens Rational. This support allows young Scottish chefs to develop through the experience of competitive cooking and advice from Scotland’s Michelin-starred chefs. The aim of the competition is to help raise the standard of Scottish professional cooking and to ensure Scotland remains a firm fixture on the culinary map.

As the world’s leading manufacturer of combination ovens, Rational have for over thirty years supported the catering Industry through constant research and development. By listening to the needs and requirements of chefs in their quest to push forward the boundaries of quality food production, Rational have constantly introduced new technology into cooking. This resulted in the launch in 2004 of the worlds only Self Cooking Center with intelligent cooking.

Sales Director Andy Bridgeman said: “With Rational’s philosophy and our company motto ‘’details make the difference’’ it seemed a natural progression to support a like minded organisation such as the Scottish Food Scholarship in its quest to encourage and develop the culinary skills and talents of young innovative chefs in Scotland’’.

Organiser Martin Wishart uses Rational ovens in his restaurant and Rational has provided his newly opened Cook School by Martin Wishart with an oven. In exchange for this, Rational can use Cook School by Martin Wishart once a month for demonstrations. This is an ideal opportunity to introduce the oven to people in the industry and the demonstrations have already proven to be a success.

Cook School by Martin Wishart uses the oven, mainly for making pastries and Restaurant Martin Wishart will start using the oven for baking the bread for the restaurant imminently.

To encourage and develop the culinary skills of the talented young chefs who have managed to reach the final of the Scottish Food Scholarship even more, Rational gives all these winners a high quality, professional set of knives.
