 | | UNIMILLS NOW EUROPE‚S LEADING MANUFACTURER OF UNHARDENED FAT FLAKES | | | Unimills | | 01/02/2008 | | | Unimills, leading European supplier of tailor-made vegetable oils and member of Asian multinational the Sime Darby group, today announced expansion of fat flaking capacity with the installation of a dedicated flaking line for unhardened fats. This additional flaking capacity enables Unimills to process vegetable fats at lower melting points and thus to offer customers healthier fat flake formulations which are trans-free and made from unhardened fats only. The new soft flake products will be launched in Prifex® 300 and Prifex® 400 series. Products will be tailored to customer specification in fat composition and functionality as well as added flavours and aromas.
This new soft flaking line doubles the Unimills flaking capacity and puts Unimills in a leading position in this market segment in Europe, offering customers a comprehensive range of flaked fats for all types of food applications. It is also a significant development in the light of increasing pressure on the food industry to balance the amount of saturated fats in their products, and to respond to the consumer challenge for healthier foods without doing concessions to enjoyment of taste and texture. To fulfil these needs, demand is increasing for flaked fats made from healthier fats rich in unsaturated fatty acids with lower melting points.
Dr. Alexander van der Klauw, Unimills General Manager: „The investment in the new flaking line underlines Unimills‚ strong commitment to be the preferred supplier of healthy vegetable fats. It also demonstrates the success of the Unimills strategy spearheaded by innovation and responsible practices to supply tailor-made vegetable oil-based ingredients to support a healthier life style.‰
Consistent quality flakes
The new soft fat flaking line has advanced technologies which guarantee consistent, high-quality soft fat flakes at melting points as low as 48 to 55 0C. Mr Julius Augspurger, Unimills Operations Manager explains, „The uniform heat transfer across the roller ensures flakes of consistent composition and concentration. In addition, cooling after flaking by means of a specially designed cooling system ensures the stability of the fat flakes after packing. This is important because it means we can ensure even, consistent quality flakes supplied to our customers.‰
Unimills soft flaking line is one of the very few soft flake flaking lines in Europe designed for the homogenous addition of oil soluble flavours and additives, such as specific vitamins (A, D and E), and flavours such as garlic and butter. The dosing system is designed for easy cleaning thus eliminating any potential cross-contamination for one batch to another.
Flake fat applications
Fat flakes are used in a wide range of applications requiring solid fat as opposed to oils for easy and even mixing in order to achieve a light even texture. Typical applications include bakery products, pizza toppings, bread improvers, pizza dough, dried soups, and similar products that require easy mixing and dispersal of fat without lumps or stickiness. The new Prifex® 300 and 400 series of soft flakes adds to Unimills‚ Prifex® 100 and 200 series of high quality hard flakes. These hard flakes typically have a high melting point (55 to 700C) and are used for a range of applications including coating materials for spices, bread improvers and chewing gum. | |
