On the 1 October 2007, having obtained the approval of EU competition authorities, Syral, Tereos’s starch subsidiary, finalised its acquisition of 5 Tate & Lyle production facilities. Syral now owns 6 production sites – Marckolsheim (F), Nesle (F), Aalst (B), Greenwich (GB), Saragossa (SP) and Saluzzo (IT), this last being owned in partnership – converting 3 million tonnes of cereal into 1,500,000 tonnes of starch products and 115,000 m3 of alcohol.

Syral has 1,360 employees, posts pro-forma turnover of 930 million euros and is now the third largest producer of glucoses and other starch-based sweeteners in Europe.

Syral manufactures a range of products including starches, sweeteners (glucose syrups, dextroses, maltodextrins and polyols), plant proteins and alcohol (traditional and bio-ethanol) for the food, pharmaceutical, chemical and pulp & paper industries.

Syral’s agricultural shareholding enables the company to control the supply of raw materials, for the greater peace of mind of its customers. Syral is committed to satisfying the food processing industry’s growing need for advanced sweetening formulations and texturants as well as the demand from non-food sectors for starches and starch-based products.

Syral will be present at the Food Ingredient Exhibition (FIE) fair, taking place in London from the 30 October to the 1 November 2007: North Hall, stand E30.
