New York's Stage Deli will celebrate its 70th Anniversary on Tuesday, October 16 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. It will offer a special reduced price lunch menu of its world-renowned overstuffed sandwiches.
Owners Steve Auerbach and Paul Zolenge will serve their full-sized famous sandwiches-pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey or salami-for $5.95. The Stage's foot-long hotdog will be available for a dollar.
The anniversary menu also includes 50-cent egg creams and fountain sodas and 25-cent coffee.
The event will feature live Klezmer music throughout.
By proclamation of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the City has declared the October 16 "Stage Deli Day." Mr. Bloomberg's proclamation acknowledges, "The Stage is home to what is surely the best-dressed burger in town-the 'Bloomberger.'"
Max Asnas opened The Stage in 1937 and it has long been one of the standards of New York delis.
Today, under the ownership of Auerbach and Zolenge, The Stage continues to be a "must stop" for New Yorkers and visitors-and one of the few remaining traditional New York delicatessens. Overstuffed sandwiches, the hallmark of Max Asnas' legacy, are the mainstay of The Stage, and named sandwiches honor celebrities from all walks of life.
The Stage Delicatessen's 70th Anniversary Celebration will continue with other events throughout the Fall. For further information regarding the Stage Deli celebration, contact Jay Heyman or Paul Mesches at Porte Advertising (212-354-6906)
